About Takween

Takween is a Jordanian non profit company concerned with pioneering and producing cultural and expressive arts activities to disseminate enlightenment content to the children & youth of Jordan & the Arab World. Takween’s activities engage youth and children in interactive experiences through the mediums of media arts & theatre aimed at providing them with opportunities to explore and discover, challenge and creatively express themselves in relation to the critical issues of their contemporary lives.

As a framework and resource foundation for its work, Takween puts heavy emphasis on rediscovering ‘content’ of Arab enlightenment body of thought and literature by Arab intellectuals, both modern and historic. The objective is to allow the youth to discover, explore and express the boundaries of their identity and how they relate to expansive universal values, The methodology is unique in that it is heavily participatory and interactive amounting to group and/or community co-authorship in certain parts.

Takween was founded as a not for profit company  in 2006 and launched its programs April 2007 .It is the concept and methodology of  cultural activist Samar Dudin, who is a theatre director working in the field of creative arts and education since 1985 in Jordan and the Arab world.. It is a cultural initiative which has been supported by RUWWAD (The Arab Foundation for Sustainable Development) chaired by ARAMEX's CEO Fadi Ghandour.

Core value

Takween's core value and emphasis is placed on teaching, integrating and creating forums for diversity as a means and a meaning for a better world. Participation accepting difference and critical thinking are at the core of Takween's products & programs which revolve around " The Missing Content" which aims to engage  our youth masses in the pursuit of an alternative kind of knowledge that embraces modernity, civil society, diversity, interfaith dialogue as key and transformative components in the Arab , Muslim & Universal cultures .

Our Commitment

Takween will be a vehicle that contributes to mobilizing an enlightened content that addresses and interacts with  the youth and the children of Jordan &  the Arab World to energize participation, social responsibility, reflection & creativity.   Takween  will explore cultural diversity, marginal cultures and the freedom of individual choice and will celebrate social and political compassion, tolerance by bringing to life the humanness of individuals as agents of change in the Arab ,Muslim and global contemporary context placing reason and mind power in the forefronts of empowerment and development, tapping into the wisdom of the human heritage.
